Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Remote Business Development Associate to lead our proposal development efforts and related tasks. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in expanding HAI’s client base, securing new projects, and contributing to the overall growth of the company in Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa region.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development of high-quality proposals, including technical and financial components, for a wide range of clients including governments, humanitarian organizations, private businesses, and development partners.
  2. Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities and potential clients in the region.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and industry leaders.
  4. Monitor and track relevant tenders, requests for proposals (RFPs), and other business opportunities.
  5. Collaborate with HAI’s technical teams to ensure proposals align with the company’s expertise and capabilities.
  6. Coordinate with subject matter experts to gather necessary information for proposals and ensure technical accuracy.
  7. Manage the proposal development process, including timelines, resources, and quality control.
  8. Develop and maintain a database of proposal content, past performance references, and expert profiles.
  9. Contribute to the development of marketing materials and capability statements.
  10. Represent HAI at relevant industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  11. Assist in developing business development strategies aligned with HAI’s growth objectives.
  12. Prepare and deliver presentations to potential clients and partners.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Development, or a related field; Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in business development, proposal writing, or a related field, preferably in the international development or consulting sector.
  3. Proven track record of successful proposal development and contract wins.
  4. Strong understanding of the development landscape in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region.
  5. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English; knowledge of Somali or other regional languages is a plus.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  7. Experience with proposal management software and CRM tools.
  8. Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

11. Experience working with developmental/humanitarian organizations and international donors such as USAID, DFID, UN agencies, or the World Bank.

12. Knowledge of procurement processes and procedures in the development sector.

13. Familiarity with thematic areas such as governance, climate change, security, health, education, or economic development.

14. Experience living or working in Somalia or other fragile contexts.
